SCOEL Recommendation for Beryllium adopted in February 2017

On 8 February 2017, the Scientific Committee on Occupational Exposure Limits (SCOEL) officially adopted its Recommendation for an occupational exposure limit (OEL) for Beryllium. SCOEL has, therefore, proposed an OEL of 0.02 µg/m3 as an 8-hour Time Weighted Average (TWA) for “Inhalable” beryllium-containing particulate and a Short-Term Exposure Limit (STEL) of 0.2 µg/m3 (15 minutes TWA).

BeST doesn’t agree with the SCOEL recommendation, technically and economically not feasible. BeST recalls that the OEL must be based on the critical health outcome which is Chronic Berylliose Disease, not sensitization.
