RoHS: BeST submits supporting evidence for the general review of RoHS

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

On 2 April, BeST submitted supporting evidence for the study evaluating Directive 2011/65/EU on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS Directive).

In 2018, the European Commission announced its plan to evaluate the RoHS Directive. The purpose of this evaluation is to assess the performance of RoHS in achieving its objective in protecting human health and the environment, including the environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment. The evaluation of the RoHS Directive takes place against the backdrop of other Commission initiatives related to the Circular Economy.

BeST hopes for more coherence in EU Chemicals legislation and asks the Commission to take action in creating an international level playing field. Additionally, BeST would like more certainty for the industry and strongly supports the ‘one substance, one assessment’ principle.
